Guys.

The car is a 2005 1.4 16v.

I believe my track rod end is failing. When I grap the passanger front wheel at 3 and 9 and rock the wheel there is some play and a slight knocking sound.

When driving the car the steering feels slightly wobbly / jumpy at times. It is pulling slightly to the left and twitches at changes in the road.

I am looking to buy this:

www.eurocarparts.com/e...0e0&000349

Would you agree with my diagnosis and is this the best / correct part?

Thanks

I would have thought with a drop link issue I would be hearing a noise while driving and especially going over bumps etc. my issue has no sound with it, except when I shake the wheel?

Get someone too look at the track rod end and also the lower arm balljoint, as you shake the wheel, it should be fairly obvious to see where the play is.

Have you confirmed inner or outer?

Is there play in the bottom arm? Is the wheel bearing failing?

More checks are required

I think my best bet is to take it to the garage and ask them to check it all out. I will then fix what they find.

Its your choice, but if you are 100 percent checking at 9 to 3 and can 'feel' play it will be a track rod joint.

To confirm which one you will need a second person to see where it is, if not place your hand over the outer joint to feel for play then the inner in the gaitor.
If you still cant feel it pull down on the track rod as close to the inner gaitor as possible and move the wheel about at the points (3-9) and see if the play has disapeared. If it has, inner, if not outer

That sounds straight forward. I will have a look after work tomorrow. If I am still not sure i will get the garage to double check.
