Issues

-Horn sounding upon unlock ; won't turn off until you physically sound it.
-Air bag fault; Passenger airbag disabled
-Radio turning volume up to max
-ABS fault
-ESP failure


All the above mine has/had. I thought I required an update and many agreed. Recently my car required a new battery as it could not hold it's charge resulting on many jump starts. Since I got my new battery the car hasn't missed a beat it feels much more alive. The faults seem to have been rectified by the battery.

Could the faults all have been some sort of safety measure because the battery wasn't supplying enough juice to run the systems safely?

What do we think? I'll report back in time to say if it's lasted but so far my car runs bang on and they always occurred before the battery.

I'm getting a lot of these warnings too. I bought a cheapf battery before and it generally seemed ok until recently with cold starting issues, speedo issues, some o your messages and blown bulbs. I've been suspecting it for a while but this has peeked my interest. How long has it been running ok?

Edit. What brand battery are you now running too?

It's been running ok for 3 days on every start up. Used to be almost every time.

It's a Jap or Chinese battery not sure the brand sorry, I'll look tomorrow if I remember.

That's cool. Mine has been doing it every day too so would gladly take three days. I have a lion battery from ECP and its ratings are very low so think at the least ill be able to start the car on a cold day

Plentyn of on-line battery suppliers will do you amazing prices. Some good motor factors will get close if you prefer to look the seller in the eye.

Its very very common for any multiplexed network vehicle to develop ghost faults through a dying battery. If you need to jump start it once (dont advise AT ALL) then replace it.

It can even eventually lead to system failure, so just get it checked by a good tester (an i dont mean multimeter) if you are in doubt

Just put a decent rated Varta on mine. Fingers crossed it sorts it otherwise I'm going to use the snow as an excuse for a front ender!

Voltage check will give you a reasonable battery charge indication - provided that you take battery temperature into account but that won't give you any check of battery capacity or abiltiy to deliver current when under load.

Yeah just put a Bosch s4 in mine. Didn't realise my old battery wasn't even the right size. Starts a lot smoother now, and holds it charge!

Plenty of room to put a larger battery in the battery tray of a 206. I had a "spare" 096 type battery and the only thing I needed to do was move the holding down bolt to another slot in the tray as the battery is longer.

The longer battery made it a bit fiddly to get the bolt in but not that much trouble.

Same width and height as the recommended battery just 60mm longer but nearly twice the capacity.

Standard = 44AH and 360CCA
Now fitted = 74AH and 700 CCA (nearly new removed from 2.4 diesel Alfa)

Nothing will stop this car starting now! Well, nothing except a burnt out starter motor (joke.)

Light bulbs haven't blown though so that's a plus providing it stays that way. Garage still reckons its a dodgy connection somewhere which is dropping the voltage.

Again probably my last bump on this, my car is still running sweet as a nut with no faults so the new battery must have sorted them out.

None of the faults have happened since the new battery and I have had the faults since I got the car 2 years ago.
