Does anybody find the front suspension on a 206 'weak'? In particular the ball joint in the wishbones?
As far as Im aware, you can't replace the ball joint on its own & a new wishbone is around £60 each & then the cost of fitting. I wouldnt mind paying a premium (within reason) IF they would last longer than 6 months!! (Ive tried eurocar parts, gsf, tm factors & ebay.)
Just wondered if anybody knows any mods to strengthen that joint? Can the ball joint be removed? & then a poly bush put in instead?

Think people recommend original peugeot ones as they last longer than aftermarket cheaper ones?

Use an OEM arm. They are usually around the same price as a motor factors.

Just spoke to local Peugeot dealer & they want £126 EACH!!

That's a bargain 
My wishbones where last changed back in 2005 / 80k + miles ago under the Peugeot 3 year manufacturer's warranty, just shows genuine parts are worth it

MrBSI: Is your car completely standard? Do you have decent roads in your area?

I think MrB's is completely standard, his roads are the same as everyone else's, but he just doesn't drive around like a complete cοck.

It will help them last longer if you carefully remove the spring clips and rubber boot. Add extra silicon grease (some manufacturers are very stingy only using a tiny, tiny bit and some don't put any in!) then refit the boot and spring clip. Be warned that the clips can split the boots when refitting though Peugeot do list just boots so if you split one you can buy a replacement boot for a few pounds.
You may also find that the metal heat shield between the ball joint and brake disc is missing. This lets the heat from the brake disc overheat the ball joint also speeding up wear.

Both 206s I've had have needed new wishbones..
So in answer to your question yeh I think there pretty s**t

Most cars these days seem to wear front suspension wishbones. Just be happy you dont have an Alfa 147 / 156 / GT. The double wishbone front suspension is the same on all these models and everything (bottom wishbones, top wishbones, drop links and anti-roll bars) either creaks or clunks within 30,000 miles and unlike the 206 most (all) the bolts will be siezed.

This is an interesting point.
I've had massive problems with those. 50% chance they rattle on me very badly so I take them off.
Initialy they were missing and I ordered nice new ones (genuine too).
Even though I believe fitted properly, one side would rattle away to the point you can hear it whilist driving.
This happened on both 206 I've fitted them and I still don't get it.
