Hey, I'm new to this forum.

Just last week I bought a 2002 206, 1.1 lx. When I turn the key, sometimes it takes a little longer than I'd like to fire up. Most of the time it starts no problem. Was just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Chris.

Sometimes if its doing that turn the key untill it is about to start but let go of the key so it automatically flicks back to the start position, do that a couple of times then it should start ok the next time,
What my car does is if its running low on fuel it will conk out after starting, just press the gas once or twice when the engine is off
Or it could be to do with your battery going flat

Does the car turn over quickly? Does it turn over noticeably slower when it is struggling to start?

Thanks for your replies.

It turns over quickly all the time, definetly doesn't slow when it has the trouble.

I tried staging the key turns, but it made no difference. Could be the battery, but wouldn't I get the problem consistently? I'll try charging it overnight.

Frustratingly a poor battery can be OK one minute and poor the next then seem OK again. Once they get weak and near the limit how long you drive the car, what electrical loads you have on it and low air temperature can just push it over the edge.

If you have a trickle charger it may be worth charging the battery overnight and seeing if the problem disappears for a while then that will suggest battery.

If you wiki lead acid battery charging you will find enough info on how to check the battery electrolyte specific gravity and what that can tell you about condition.

Easier option is to go to a reputable garage or battery retailer and ask for a "drop or load test." Most good battery retailers and some garages will do this for free.
