Guys,

I have had a look at my Haynes manual, but there is no mention of an earth strap on the alternator. I believe my alternator is located on the left hand side of the engine under the power steering. I can see one plug going into the alternator but where would the earth be?

Thanks

The alternator is bolted to the engine block which is in turn attached to the gearbox.

The whole lot is earthed as its all attached together.

So the earth on the gearbox that I have changed covers this then. I will try the reboot.

Yes.

That was brilliant advice there on my part I recon. Laughing

I'll keep quiet now I think.

Im going to stab in the dark here, but if you are suffering with other random electric faults I would be looking at a failing bsi unit or software

Update:

I have followed Mr BSI's advice and have rebooted the BSI.

I followed the procedure on here. Window down bonnet up. Disconnect etc etc.

While it was disconnected I removed the front grille and headlights and cleaned the two earth points behind the headlights. The passenger side was very corroded!

Put it all back together and woke the car up again as per the procedure.

I have just been for a long run in the car. I picked a route with plenty of turns so I could replicate the conditions (clutch brake indicating coming to a stop). I have driven several miles and no issues of any kind. I was unable to replicate the issue.

I will give it a few days before I say this is sorted but it is looking like either the earth or BSI bug......

I take it you've checked the ones behind the headlights..
No need to take them off just to examine if they're OK.

No way, it's a Pug so it ain't over 'till it's over.
BSI reset might have been it instead.
Fingers crossed then.

The car beeped a couple of times again today. Any one got any other thoughts?

Looked at sorted so far:

No warning lights. No stored codes
Earths behind both headlights cleaned
Negative battery to gearbox to chassis earth replaced
BSI rebooted
Alternator connection checked

I have no idea what to look at next Sad

What is your battery condition like? Is it the standard head unit and is it the sort of loud chirp that you get from the speakers when the head unit has the wrong vin set to it? Maybe there is a fault with the BSI software recognising the stereo's programmed VIN or a fault in the wiring to the mfd and to the stereo from the bsi.

These are my initial thoughts...

Thanks for your thoughts. The battery is 5 months old and has been tested. It is 100%. I have the factory fitted head unit.

I am wondering if I May have a bulb out on the dash and when it is beeping I am not seeing a light come on?

I could do with someone posting a pic of the lights on the dash at start up?

Any other symptoms when it beeps?

Is it a single beep?
Can you describe it, like is it the same as the 'door-open' beep when the car starts rolling?
Definately not coming from the speakers?

At the exact moment of beep does the MFD go blank and then comes back again?
OR the engine temp gauge move?

Have you checked oil level?

It is a single beep from the comms. No other lights or issues no mfd symptoms. It sounds the same as a foot open beep.

It only happens when coming to a stop.

Could it be a dodgy liquid level sensor? Oil? Brake fluid? Or coolant?

If so where are the sensors please?

What is a foot open beep?

Checked the brake fluid level?
Done any work on the brakes recently?
Do you have ABS?

Predictive text or very small keyboard?
I'll hazard a guess it should be door.
