Hi all

Have read through a load of stuff on the forums here before posting, but still unsure what to do about MOT failure. My project 180 has the standard 180 seats but with the harnesses for track. When I removed everything, I put it all back in place and having spent this evening looking over it, the ECU is fine, both front bags are fine, the curtain and seat bags are fine, the underseat connections are fine... but I have no inertia reels or seatbelt connectors.

I still have passenger side airbag deactivated and airgab fault messages every time - regardless of whether the bypass is on.

Looking an another post - is there meant to be something which connects to the inertia reel seatbelt which would cause this? I have tried a soft boot also... and can the Peugeot Planet save me in any way? I just want to drive the damn thing having spent 18 months rebuilding it!!!!

Probably something to do with the seat belt pretensioners.

Peugeot planet will probably give you a better answer, will be more specific.

In Peugeot Planet there is an option to deactivate the various parts of the airbag system. I've done it before where seats with side airbags have been replaced by the non airbag alternatives.
Can't remember the exact procedure but if you know your way around PP you'll find it.

Well after rebuilding the car for 18 months,I believe that you should have it scanned for PP2000,and make sure there is not fault codes in any ECU.

About the airbag,with pp2000 you will know for sure what is the problem with the passenger airbag,and the seat belts is an important item in the Airbag system,so make sure that the passenger seat belt pretensioners is connected.

But as Macca Said,you can disable the airbag while you use the PP2000,when you are in the Airbag ECU,you can choose Configuration,and you are able to disable any airbag u want Smile

Thank you so much guys - so it is more or less a foregone conclusion that it will be the tensioners, given that they are not fitted. Rather than go the route of getting hold of tensioners, which may or may not have deployed, in which case I will have the same problem, I will go the PP2000 route....

Thus, next question, being a PP noob, is it a case of getting the relevant cable and software? Is there any trustworthy people that can supply? And has anyone successfully used Windows 7 in compatibility mode to run it?

You'll need software and wire. You can run it on win 7 pro and above using vm ware and installing xp on that. It will only work with xp.

Righto - thanks. Saw a PooTube vid showing that. Seems straight forward enough. Just need to locate a good (and cheap!) source for the unit and lead...

Just so I know I am going the right route...

As the tensioners are no longer in the car, I assume that the system will throw an error regardless of whether I disable just one airbag using PP, so I can only conclude that I will need to disable the lot... which in no way concerns me. I hate the things...

However, can I be completely clear that in doing so, there will be no console messages and that the lights on the dash will behave appropriately for the MOT.. in that they will illuminate when ignition goes on and go out after the car starts?

Right - I have established that disabling the airbags using PP will take the light out, thus failing the new MOT rules.

I have popped to Maplin to score some 2.2Ohm resistors, but bridging them across the plugs for the inertia reel has not helped..

Has anyone done this before?? Surely someone must have!! I am going crazy here, just want to (legally) drive my car!!!

***** IMPORTANT - NEW MOT RULES - GOOD NEWS FOR TRACK CARS *****

I have just spoken with scheme management at VOSA who categorically state that if your vehicle has been suitable modified such that it shows its intended use for track or rally (eg. harnesses, rear seats removed, OEM parts removed and replaced with professional track-bred items, roll cage - or a suitable mix of everything) then it will be tested with some exceptions to the rules. This means that because I have harnesses and rear seats removed, I will not be expected to have operational air bags for the test, and as long as the dash does not indicate a fault - for which I CAN remove the bulb(!) - it will not fail.

This however does NOT apply to a car that has been lowered, momo steering wheel and bodykit - for obvious reasons. The ambiguity of whether the car is going to be used primarily on track or off-road is down to the MOT examiner and up to you to convince them, but you can appeal against it directly with VOSA, but given that they have just implimented this, I doubt they would have much sympathy and would suggest you find another test station.

So... upshot is that MOT is now booked at my local garage under the new "specially modified" vehicle rules. Needless to say, SinfulDesignCom is a very happy bunny now... Smile
