Hi

Just had a diagnostic check on my non starting 2003 sw, it came up with crankshaft sensor fault. Any idea how to locate the sensor or what it looks like, my haynes manual only covers the larger diesel motors.

Thanks in advance

Wayne

In reply to my own question, and to assist anyone else struggling to fix their car themselves, the crank sensor is under the bottom pulley. A mechanic with an autodata cd told me it was on the back of the block pointing in towards the flywheel on the gearbox end.

Anyway, removed the plug for the cps and found pin no3 in the plug corroded with verdi gris. Cleaned it up and the car started immediately. It looks like the bottom crank pulley needs removing to change the sensor out.. can anyone confirm that?

Cheers

Wayne

ive done mine before and yes the lower C/S pulley has to come off. you can get away with removing the lower cover bolts and prising the cover off just enough to take the sensor right out. (held in with a 10mm bolt)

you won't get it past the bottom pulley so that has to be removed.

you dont need to pin the flywheel. the pulley is on a key way.

Check the pulley when it is off .. it's a two piece unit with a rubber damper ring and when that ring goes the pulley will clonk and wobble ...
