Hoping you lot could give me a bit of advice on my 206's gearbox.

When the clutch is engaged, gear selection is generally smooth. The reverse gear is a bit tricky and difficult to engage, but it does work. It is also generally quite sloppy when in gear, giving off a fair amount of wobble.

I was just wondering is this movement normal? If not, does anyone know if this is something I should be worried about and get looked at? The only thing I can think that it might be is the gear linkages but I'm not sure as I'm a bit of a novice.

Any advice greatly appreciated Smile

You probably need new gear links and definately check the left-hand engine (gearbox) mount.

TIP...
If your struggling to get it into reverse sometimes put it back into neutral, lift the clutch off rev the engine and go for the gear again...it should go straight in.

Hi V9977,

I got the gearbox and all related checked out today, it turns out that all is normal and nothing needs to be replaced or fixed. It just felt looser than normal to me because I learned to drive in a Ford which have very tight gearboxes! Cheers for the advice though Smile

Funny you say that. I tried something similar without knowing of this earlier today and it worked perfectly and is actually much smoother ever since. Thanks for that Very Happy

The reverse gear is always problematic. Pump the clutch in neutral to solve Wink

And the gearboxes are clunky!

Sadly I've had 3 206s so can confirm this is the case.

You do notice these things more when you've been driving a different car all weekend and get back in the 206.

Well this is my first car, I did my driving lessons and passed my test without driving outside lessons in a corsa, which had I'm assuming a tight gearbox compared to the 206. So luckily it shouldn't take me long to get used to at all Smile
