Sounds more like a dodgy injector seal, very common on the crappy DV4 engine

Does sound like a tapping blowing noise, its my partners car, changing the injector seals might be worth a try. Put the link up hoping someone has had the same problem, thanks for reply, and more views. Thanks

Throw a bit of water around the injectors, if you see bubbles, then seals gone, obviously engine running.

My 1.4 HDI has done 145,000 miles with no problems on the injectors so obvious the engines aren't that crappy.
Engaging the brain before making useless, childish comments on here is far more constructive.

My mrs loves the car, and its so cheap to run and the mpg is amazing. It might be alittle slugish compared to the petrol engine, but she can double my mpg on my 1.4 petrol 206 with cheap tax too.
It sounds like its coming from under the air filter, so will find out where injectors are and see if they are leaking.

As above sounds like the injector seals, will be worth checking the condition of the fuel pipes under the air box aswell whilst your at it for chaffing, sometimes removing these to gain access to the injectors is enough to finally cause a pin p***k hole which will cause starting troubles without hand priming it every morning.
Again whilst your at it will be worth getting new leak of pipes and seals as often when removing them the plastic cracks. Be prepaired you will need to clean off all the carbon thats built up from it blowing in order to fit the new seals successfully.
Parts needed:
Injector seals
Injector plastic collars
Injector leak of pipe set
Rocker cover gasket ( for the sake of £7.50 you may as well replace)

Depending on how bad it is you can just change the seal. If its been like it for a long time it can damage the metal of the injector seat/head. Then you'll have re cut the seat and use a thicker washer.
P.S its a fairly big job until you can even see the injectors.
Air box
Turbo pipes
Fuel filter housing
Cam belt covers
EGR
Then inlet manifold/rocker cover comes up in one big lump.
Done this before on mine. Iv got fairly small hands so it only took about 2 hours to take apart.

Ordered the seals , someone said spray water around them to see which one is leaking. If u have to take so much off to even see them, i don't see how u can run the car to do this.

When it sounds like that you'll see the tar build up around it. Are you replacing all the seals?
I would leave the ones that don't leak.
When removing the tar I used meths and did it when it was warm.
Only ever done an injector on a 2.0hdi so its very very easy to get to the injectors.
