You need the complete set of matching GTI callipers, pads & discs.
It all bolts straight on.

the gti discs are too big,you need to get the calipers from a 1.6 16v or gti..or 180 for even bigger discs on your car

Buy the calipers first. Find out what age and preferably build date (can be found on hoses under the bonnet, seat belts etc) of the GTi or XSi that they are from and then buy the correct new discs and pads. Don't do it the other way round.

Go for the GTi180 calipers that will enable you to fit the matching 282mm brake discs. Good advice above buy it all from the same car.
But whatever you do, don't buy the 307 2 litre calipers that also hold 282mm discs, and buy GTi180 discs. They have different offsets

Get 207 gti brakes.
302mm disc.
Calipers bolt straight on and clear standard gti wheels.
