Hi,

I have spent ages trying to find out what the rattling noise from the back of my car it, it generally happens when i go over bumps, uneven roads etc, but not all bumps.

It sounds like whatever the rattle is, it has plenty of room to move about, it small rod inside large rod rattling about.

So I was under the car earlier tapping things to see what rattled, nothing you would expect rattled, i tapped the fuel tank and low and behold i heard a tap back, it was as if i had forced a ball up and it came back down.
I am just wondering what could make this noise, if its just the fuel sensor then i shall look elsewhere but the tank is full so i wouldnt expect it to be at the bottom (shows full on gauge)

I have had the backbox and centre exhaust section replaced (its not hitting the torsion bar)
I have had the rear dampers replaced.

It was making the noise before and after these were replaced.

Any other ideas?

Wait till the tank is empty & have a look inside.

I know for a fact that Peugeot replaced something on your car due to a fuel leak so they have been inside the tank in the past.

How do you get the bit under the seat (fuel pump?) off/out? That makes a squeeky noise itself but only when you push down on the top of it

The black plastic bung?

No idea BUT ill have a look tomorrow if you can hold on.

IIRC - Ricky went to fill it up & petrol leaked out the top of the tank - I think Peugeot fitted a new pump / sender unit under warranty.

I do remember him telling me that, I have the documents for it somewhere.

I can hold on, its been making the noise for ages, was hoping it was a rear mount bush, be easier to replace.
Other than that maybe a bearing on the axle.

When you say bung, do you mean the thing holding the pump in place or the plastic lid? as thats broken anyway, got 1 clip left.

Ok I sat in the back with seats down a minute ago. Not tank, got to be exhaust or bushes.
Be p**sed if its the exhaust as its the reason I got it changed.

Could it be the manifold? vibrating to the back when going over bumps?
Anyone ever had this before?

May sound silly but I had a really bad rattle from the back years ago when going over bumps. Turned out to be the nut holding the spare wheel was loose. That's if you have a spare wheel at the back...

Na i've taken the spare and the cradle (including bolt) off my car.

Thanks for the reply though.

Did that. Makes a noise on the up/lift near drivers side rear. Can't tell if its near brakes/wheel or top mount

you say it sounds like a ball only thing that has a ball in would be the anti-syphon mechanism. They put a ball inside so fuel can pass but makes it impossible for a hose to get inside the tank.
