Hi everyone, I am trying to sort a problem for a friend's 206 Lx Automatic, I think it is a 1.6L, I had searched forums without having to join but I could not find any useful answers to his problem, so in the end I had to register to ask a question about his speedo not working, already he has spent 50 quid on new speedo sensor and it did not sort it out. But thanks any way, its good to join any way.
He went and bought a speedo sensor, replaced it and no joy!
So I suggested that he might get some help from Peugeot Forums and from you clever people!
Any ideas what it may be, can it be an abs sensor as in some other cars they use abs sensor to run the speedo?
and please could you shed some light on why is the red STOP light flashing,
I have also undone the speedo cluster, there is only 1 screw and a multi way connector at the back, it seems that the wiring thickness is different at the sensor and thinner at the speedo console, so that means the speedo sensor must be wired to ECU first and then from there to the dash. I just wanted to check continuity.
Please help if you can. its the only reason why I joined this forum today to help my mate get going! Thanks in advance.

How old is the car?
Are there any warning lights for ABS, if the car has it?
STOP is linked to the "engine oil pressure", "coolant temperature and low coolant level", "handbrake", "low brake fluid level" and "electronic brake force distribution system fault" warning lights.
And on some older model/software cars the stop light flashes when a door is open when the car is moving.

So, if a new speedo sensor hasn't sorted it out, what else can it be, can it be the ecu, as I am sure the speed signal must go into ECU for it to work out possibly many other operations related to speed. I am off to see the car now and check ll those things you mentioned above. So i will come back later. cheers.

If the car has ABS then the vehicle speed is taken from the ABS sensors and magnetic ring in the wheel bearings.
Without ABS the vehicle speed is taken from the pickup on gearbox.
I personally would get the ecu codes read at a garage, as it could be corroded cables, or a faulty odometer or anything.

There are no stored codes or any other lights on like the em light on, another friend who has an OBDII plugged it in and cno codes were stored.
I tried Checking engine oil, something seems wrong with its flimsy dip stick, the stick seems to rotate when inserting and the plastic tip of the dipstick appears to be broken, and oil seems to cling well up to at least 3" high along the steel wire, it seems either its been overfilled, and there are no ABS brakes on this car, hence no abs light on the dash, coolant level OK, brake fluid level ok, and no brake imbalance light on either, and handbrake seems ok and makes no difference to light when dropped down, all doors closed, except the rear tail gate does not lock up with the front drivers door key (seems no remote locking and there doesn't appear to be any other lock on the rear hatch back lid.
Can there be a fault in the cluster itself? or the speedo drive mechanism? I can possibly take it part and have a look.

If you start the engine, open the door and roll the car forwards slowly about 6mph does the interior light flash?

A 2006 car without abs doesn't sound right. Not all obd scanners work with Peugeots

My car is 2006 and doesn't have abs. If the car recognises it's moving it will flash the interior light, so you could then look at maybe the cluster.

I think you forgot something here, there has to be a third condition for the interior light to flash , you covered car moving, No ABS, and may be you forgot to add the door not shut properly etc.
