could anyone tell me if i need to get a ball joint splitter to to release the hub so i can get the fromt strut out of can i knock it out? ive disconnected everything, ready to replace the other springs. If this is the case how hard is it to reconnect it? car is a 1.1 look. thankyou Cool

You need to take the hub off the ball joint to get the hub off the damper. You need some chain and some timber to lower down on the wishbone to pull it down and out from the hub.

Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

If they are standard shocks it will be very difficult to get out without splitting the ball joint. Don't use a splitter though as it will just ruin the seal.

Edwards advice is good, but even then it's not easy with one person especially when trying to align it back up.

lazer made a tool that went into the hub to open it out so balljoint slipped out, not sure if you can still buy them tho

You do not need a splitter for the bottom joint as it is not tapered like a conventional ball joint. It is held in place by a pinch bolt. The Haynes manual isn't perfect for all tasks but for jobs like these it is very good. Buy one it is £16 well spent.

ive just hit the hub and its disconnecting from the strut, only a centremeter to go till its out. Is this an alright way of doing it?

I take it the wishbone and ball joint are out of the hub first?

Personally, I smash the hell out of my hub carriers until they come out. Hardly does a any damage.
