So how the heck do you get that back on without removing steering column? Can't see the end of the cable or exactly where it has to go and really hard to feel it and my hands will only just get in there so my finger tips just feel the cable end.
What is the trick?

Flat blade screw driver, needle nose pliers and a lot of swearing
Try doing it when the cable you have isnt designed to fit. Now that is fun

Actually managed to do it with fingers - just. it helped to adjust the pedal stop bolt so that the pedal was very high and the part the cable goes onto was closer to the bulk head.
Connected the other end after lots of leverage on the clutch release arm (can't be right I thought) to discovered that the cable seems to have self adjusted so no connection between engine and gearbox with clutch up and no go.
Bugger! Cable removed and side by side comparison seems to show that the inner on the new cable is longer than the one removed - strange as that should have given the opposite effect. Only spent a few second looking as friends had already arrived for barbecue and beer. Lets see what I find today.

This morning reveals that the new cable has self adjusted and no getting it back. Force it apart (small screw driver) and ball bearings fall out and no idea how it should go back together - there are several places the ball bearing could go but none of them make the cable work correctly.
Force the old (Peugeot) cable apart and easy to see how that works. Reset that cable (not easy) refit and clutch working perfectly.
One of those easy !!!!!! jobs that you wish you hadn't started.
There is now a 1.4 petrol for sale with 68,008 miles on the clock.
PS: I am now an expert at getting a 206 clutch cable onto a clutch pedal using my fingers - 20 second or less job. With my size hands I can just get the fingers of both hands onto the cable end and position it. Easy.
