Hi, I have a 2003 1.4 HDI and have recently noticed a smell of fumes in the car. When I turn the heaters off or alter the air circulation the smell goes away... I have had the full exhaust replaced but still no difference...anyone experienced this problem before? Any help would be appreciated...Cheers, Pete

Mine does the same occassionally, I'll get a strong smell of petrol when starting up, never thought too much of it though.

Mine does this too and always has done. Have also experienced it in other cars.
Have you notice fuel consumption drop recently?
Do you notice the smell is stronger when the engine is cold or hot?
If you've had the exhaust replaced, especially the manifold, then it can't be that. Generally if it is occuring on a cold startup it is nothing to worry about, as it is usually the automatic choke, or in the 206s case, the engine ECU injecting inital fuel through its pipes.

Injector leak, or carbon leak from turbo
Check the engine for both. Injector leaking out round the seals into hard black carbonnis by far more common

+1 leaking injector and being due to auto choke is just plain wrong especially on a diesel!
