H guys, hoping you might be able to shed some light on something really irritating me in my 1.1LX 2003.

For the past month or so, there has been a loud banging or knocking coming from the back of the car when driving over potholes, bumps and ramps.

The car passed its Irish NCT (MOT) last week so that rules out any mechanical or structural faults. I was thinking it might be the spare wheel rattling about, so I removed it and it's cage, went for a drive and the noises were still there!

So I thought I'd take it to a good mechanic today, who drove it, heard the noise, put it up on the ramp. As I thought, he could find absolutely nothing wrong with it and said everything is solid.

He said put it down to one of those mystery noises that might eventually disappear.

So I was wondering, anybody here had the same experience or have any ideas of what it might be. I'm not worried about it even, it's just annoying!

By the way, all of the panels on the car outside are solid, so that's ruled out as well.

As always, cheers Smile

Take the rear shocks off and see if there knackered. I've seen them snap inside before.

I've got the same noise, I found out my new exhaust has been hitting the heat sheild as the hangers are too short. Worth having a look on yours. Does it knock under hard braking?

I also have the same noise. Checked everything and nothing seems to be causing it.
Hoping to sell the car soon but doubt anyone will want it after they've driven it Sad

Any guides as to how to do that?

Do you know where I can find the heat shield to look? The mechanic seemingly checked all this out and it was fine. And nope, no knocking under braking at all (unless I'm going over a ramp).

Irritating the hell out of me :/

Jack the car up and undo one end of the shocks. If there knackered they'll easily move up and down without any resistance.
