Engine cut out at very low speeds - ICV?

Hi Guys,

I bought a 206 1.4 8v Quicksilver, (2001 Multiplexed), and took it for a spin to Portsmouth yesterday. When I was in the car park, I shifted from 2nd to 1st, and suddenly the engine just cut out, with the EML coming on.

It wasn't a stall, it's just like the engine stopped gracefully.

Then after bombing it up the A3 back to London, I got off, and drove fine for about 15 minutes, then it happened again, just as I was pulling into a car park.

I was reading up on it this morning, and it seems to be the ICV. The car has just been serviced and MOT'd, however I'm not 100% that they check the ICV as part of either.

Would it be worth taking the ICV off and giving it a blast with some carb cleaner, or should I take it to a garage, since there's a 3 month warranty on the car?

Sorry if this has already been answered - just want to be 100%

If it was me I would use the warranty. If it is not the icv but something else. You messing could invalidate the warranty. While you are at it check everything air con etc etc. get any issues sorted now under the warranty.

If you are comfortable doing it, yes, have a go yourself as this is really the first likely culprit.

Clean the throttle disc too (butterfly I think it's known as IIRC), and as far as you can get into the housing.

Sorted my problems a treat a little while back!

Is it worth taking the entire throttle body off, or shall I do it whilst it's still connected to the engine?

Only thing I did was disconnect my air filter (GSR), move it enough to get and take off the ICV.
The rest I did where it was!

Ah great! I've had a look at it quickly, (with it still in place) and the whole area looks like it's got 12 years of cr*p on it.

I'll go by Halfrauds in a bit and get some carb cleaner.

When I have used the cleaner on the ICV, should I dry it off with a towel or something?

If you are going to clean with the bits on, don't spray the cleaner into the housing directly.
Apply a bit to a cloth, clean around and if necessary add a bit more.

Just make sure it's nice and dry before you fire things up again!
