Would someone be able to help me with an issue my car has developed since it had some welding work done to it.

When I turn the ignition on or start the car the temperature gauge goes up into the red, back down and does that repeatedly until it comes to a rest like when the ignition is off. Could this be a thermostat, temp sensor or perhaps a fuse (not sure which one to pull to check)

Well for future tip,never do any welding work on your car unless the battery is off,and better to have the Engine computer (ECU) disconnected. About your problem,no fuse would do that,you might have a faulty temp gauge.but trying a new coolant temp sensor do no harm

That's the second comment i have seen regarding welding and battery ECU disconnection. I am guessing it can fry the ECU etc.

Can someone explain how and why?

Thanks for the reply. The person welding did disconnect the battery on the positive using the quick release, I'll have a go at the sensor change though.
