i have a 2.0 hdi engine, was driving down the bypass doing around 70 - 80 mph then all of a sudden a loss of power came! this slowed me down to about 60 and thats all i can now do top end, but luckily was enough to get me to the next slip road.

i pulled over and as i was stopped it sounds like its running on 3 cylinders with a LARGE BANGING NOISE

the noise is coming from the air filter housing. and the smell of exhaust gases are present in there. and the air filter has been ripped and blow a big hole in it.

i took the timing belt cover off and put a locking pin in the cam, took the starter off to gain access to the timing mark on the crank and it was one tooth out on the cam, so i took the tension off the belt adjusted the cam to the correct timing marks hoping for the noise to have gone

but no its still there!?

any suggestions other than the inlet valve burnt/smashed/bent??

any common faults please as i dont know weather it is worth spending money on ?

thanks

OK so i started to take the head off today! going well so far, allthought it is a b***h to work on haha, has anyone ever taken the head off one before in situ, becuase to get to the 3rd inlet manifold bolt, the EGR valve is in the way, 1 bolt is out of he EGR soleniod but! the other bolt has a branch/pipe to the inlet on it. and once the pipe is removed it has still got a piece of pice manufactured into the EGR, and the 2nd bolt i need to get to is underneath it, there is not enough room to get a socket on it, and its too fiddley and not enough room for a spanner, i tried a stubby spanner but it keeps falling off or just generally wont work, ANY ideas welcome!!! i have heard of these crows feet sockets you can get? but ideally i need to hammer the socket over the head of the bolt as it is a 8mm bolt but a 10mm slots over it, 9mm just about fits very tightly and will crack it off and 8mm has no chance, these are snap on tools so its not ****e im using haha,

thanks for reading Smile
