If it doesn't line up, it won't be a gti box.
What's the code on it?

From what I can gather there are 2 types of box for the 180 - the differences I do not know (but of course others will fit, these are just the ones supplied from factory)
1st type - DM78 / DM77 / DM7G
2nd type - DP08 / DPOH / DP09 / DPK8
Then they are probably differences between each one even in the same type.
The fixings may be slightly different, hard to say without seeing them but if yours is 20DM78 and the other is any of the second type then that would be my guess.

Does it have a removable dif on the back? Can you post a picture of it?
How does it compare with your other box.

Can anyone tell me if a 20DM31 will fit as a direct replacement for a 20DM78?

I think you did get gearbox from C4 VTS or 307. Thats why your mounts didnt fit. Just remove mounts from old gearbox and mount on new gearbox.

When you say mounts do you mean where the nuts go through to hold it to the block? If they are then they can't be moved.

Yeah it's those bolts, I've got both gearboxes in the boot of my other car now so when I go to look at a replacement I can compare to make sure they are identical, from pictures of another DM box I've seen they are identical so I'm just hoping the 2 numbers after DM are just batch numbers
