Hey, everyone. Thought it'd be a bit of fun to do a little show and tell on my 206 from how it used to be on day one and to how it looks now. I took A LOT of photos from literally everything I've done so maybe interesting for those who have ideas and want to try some of this stuff.

Here she is on day one. Just got her home from the dealers about 6/7 months ago.

 


Like a lot of people it seems, I wanted my car to look a lot like a 206 GTi 180 even though it's a poxxy 1.1. As well as a lot of people, here's the goal (and probably the exact same photo they looked at!)

 


On day two (ffs lol), my clutch went. Sadly, I didn't do it myself, but, had a friend do it instead as they had the room and equipment to do so at the time. Sadly, they left the door open, or something, noticed rear passenger side's floor and seat was soaked once being returned to me.

Didn't fancy just letting it "dry out" as the smell of wet would linger and probably get some fandabbydosey moss, etc... THE STRIP BEGINS!

Being as much of a genius as I (ain't), I thought I may as well sort out the sound system too. We'll get to that shortly.

 


The wagon arriving at my garage looking rather silver and dirty.

Because of the water getting into the carpet and not just on mats (didn't have any at the time!), I had to strip out the carpet of the car (oh the joys).

Started off removing the seats...

 


 


 


starting to notice how dirty the car really is! showroom only cleaned the bits you can see, haha! this is well worth doing for those who have the time!

 


yuck!

 


hats off to peugeot for fitting the carpet, they did a good job! had to cut it slightly in some areas to get it out as it was properly fitted! you can also see where the water is as well now slowly going moldy!

finally with the car all back together, it's time to focus a bit on the outside of the car rather than the innards (which I still haven't finished! more on that later)

thought I'd start somewhere easy and paint the door trims! (oh god) door trims removed!

 


proudest moment of my life incoming! my first EVER time painting and I've managed to do a good job, haha! plastic primer, mixed paint to match car and lots and lots of laquer!

 


back on the car!

 


next up was the bumper strip! had to fully remove it off the car which was a shock:\ was hoping for a simple pull off job, haha!

 


due to total laziness, I masked up the bumper and didn't remove the strip. Newspaper and masking tape is the best! managed to get all visible parts as well, more success!

 


little peugeot gang at college! (guess who can't reverse park, cough black pug!)

 


next up was the 17" vortex alloys! managed to pick a set up for 120£ on all worn tyres (needed replacing). Front two were scuffed as you can see in the picture below.

 


four brand new tyres later and I'm seeing them on the car for the first time!

 


while I was at it I removed the "fancy" zest badges that peugeot had blessed the car with

 


here's the wagon with all four 17's on... she's screaming "LOWER ME, LOWERRR MEEEEE!!" bloody peugeot suspension! am I the first person to monster truck a pug? lol

my god! look at that hight!

Cant say I've seen one that high.

As you say needs an absolute beating with the lowering stick

bit more painting time and then for lowering! time to sort that awful black bumper strip!:) same idea as last time, paper and masking tape, woohoo!!

nice fan, baby! removed the front pug badge + plastic strip for better papering!

 


newed up! it's a bit like a BMW artcar but more boring and full of cars for sale.

 



time to get scared for c*** ups!

front bumper done and looking weird without the middle grill!

now for suspension!

this took me off the road FOR A WEEK. WORST JOB EVER.

It took me 5 days. I now understand why it costs £300+ to lower cars like this. Some parts were being stubborn and wouldn't come off. Replaced Lower arms, track rod ends and anti roll bar links for new parts and a few others I've probably forgot like lower arm pinch bolt..

I purchased coilovers (so that's springs, dampeners, shocks) for the front which allow me to lower from 20mm to 100mm. Took about a day to get everything back together, but four to get it apart. Even had to mess with the drive shaft on the bugger just to get the coilovers under the arch!

 


For the rear you'll find the car will normally "self adjust" relatively as long as your rear end hasn't seized. So it'll sit a lot lower than standard once you've adjusted the front. I replaced the shocks on the rear to help it out because it was being lowered anyhow. You just adjust the torsion bars on the rear which isn't too much trouble (unless they're seized, which mine were!!!)

just updated a bit more! still hunting pictures of the last few things I've done!! a lot more to do but she's getting a lot nicer:) happy she's not a monster truck anymore, haha!

Just be happy I'm only showing the changes I've made and not everything that's broke! we'd have a never ending thread then. Gear linkages just went last night after driving the car through a 15" high flooded road!! (I didn't know it was that high until it came upto the top of my wheels!!) to be fair, she did get through it all though! went through about 3 flooded roads where landrovers and other cars were turning around! she weren't happy about it but glad it didn't get too badly damaged! had no choice but to keep going as otherwise it would have probably ended up with water in the engine.

here she is sitting at home being abandoned until I get the parts from the peugeot dealership. (like my tow strap?? got her home!)

Haha! The green pug belongs to someone in my IT class!:) rare colour and strange that it has blue seats! the cars been in his family since 1999 so he's got a little relic, haha!

Business was the floor above me so probably haven't seen you about! I've never seen L5 UKS sadly but I'm going to keep a look out! If you see "R19 DSW" that's the pug! I'm getting the plates changed over tomorrow:) I'll definitely give you a wave or a honk if I see you about!

update: just sorted out the gear linkage and its running a dream again! going to sort out my private plate tomorrow and hopefully find some time to paint my GTi spoiler and get it on. Here's a quickie of it with the new plates (removed again now as they're not yet registered to the car)

 


Apologies on the dirty car! I need some mudflaps or arch extensions due to the wheels being out so far from the 5mm spacers. Got some lovely oil on the front of the car too from replacing the gear linkage and also aligning the wheels with lasers.

Quick pic so you can see how flush the wheels are. Means anything but straight wheels and you get lovely dirt splattered all up the side of the car:\ will get round to it!

Looks far too low. Why not raise it a bit and make it look more purposeful and it will drive better.

Addaz pretty much summed it up. I'm 18, I've got a 1.1, it's slow, I've got to look good somehow, haha! I intend on getting a GTi 180 next so maybe then I'll keep it at a reasonable height but this poor bugger is staying slammed!

The car actually handles pretty much the same and doesn't get much scrubbing unless you're taking speed bumps at 20+

Update:- went out today, crunching going in and out of gears. Does this more when its warm than when its cold. Inspected it over, gear linkage is fine, clutch is fine. Only started after my incident with the puddle. I thought gear linkage solved this, it somewhat did, gears flow better but you can feel them being refused into place fully. Get the odd problem when its cold, but a lot more common when warm. 100% a gearbox problem. I'm going to check how much oil is in it just in case its got too much, or too little. I did empty the system and put 1.9 litres (correct amount for my gearbox, used correct oil too) but I'll just double check to see if there's more, or needs topping up. If not, looks like I'm dropping my gearbox out and getting dirty!
