Hi , I have a peugeot 206 hdi 1.4 and I need to change the alternator, I want to know if I can fit a 206 1.4 petrol alternator on it, I checked at the pictures and they look the same, I just wanted to know if they are the same in voltage/amps wise... the reason for this is that a scrap yard close to my house has one for £20 but comes from a petrol 206, and I need the car running for tomorrow.
ps I dont have money to get a new one at the moment .

As long as the output is the same. Might be stamped on the alternator itself.

Output should be fine, more than likely the fittings and connections might be different.

I think the diesel alternator puts out more amps (Petrol 80amp, diesel 150amp) and the connectors may be different.

Have a look at servicebox ... depends on a lot of things like a/c, power steering, age, ...

Also seems to suggest some have belts with splines and some with teeth ...

Not very clear-cut to me ... you'd need to know exactly what petrol version it came off ...

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

I think he means the toothed Vee belt.

Only 2 belts on a 206, never seen an aux belt with teeth before!

They're not teeth as such, the grooves are there to help the belt bend around the pulleys. The early belts were solid and slipped easier.
Think it was fitted on the very early TU engines.
