My cars burning oil and I've found out it's the valve stem seals does anyone know the time it takes to do it on a tu3jp lump.
1.4 8v 1999

Ive heard there is a way you can do it without removing the head but have never done it

That method would be ok until you drop a valve into the cylinder.
Easier to take the head off.

They use compressed air to stop the valve opening.

I had the head done not long ago along with a head skim etc at a garage.. So doing the head surely the garage would use a head gasket kit.. So the valve stem seals should of been replaced am I right?

No, as the valves are not removed during this process. It would be extra labour to replace

Ah right so it's off with the head again then I see  -.- thanks anyway guys. Might get a compression test done just incase? Could be rings..

Get a compression check done. If its good across all four (peugeot have no figures, just as long as the highest and lowest are within 10% of each other) then dont worry.
If its low, or one is lower, put some oil in the bore, if it increases, its your rings

someone told me once that if you poor a small bit of kerosene/diesel into each plug hole it can clean the seals, sometimes they get covered in carbon and wont seal properly, the kerosene cleans the carbon deposit. oil change required after......
anyone else tried this ?
