Start at the back end in the 2 lighting clusters, checking for loose bulbs, and all wiring connections, seeing that the problem seems to be happening when you are brakeing.
(Doing this first is a 5 min job)

If that does not resolve it go to the front and check the brake unit (round thing) under the passanger footwell, then procede and remove both headlights and do the same, it is here where the earth wires get corroded.

Merged from lights inside and out flickering thread

as above , I have cleaned the gearbox earth strap that connects to the gearbox have removed all lights individually there is no bass bax/amp connected , brand new battery and alternator is charging fine . have removed the side lights also . anyone have any idea I even removed the brake switch in pass footwell and still the same . need the car doing asap as I cant drive of a night time as its a defect on the car , don't really want to be forking out for an auto electrician
many thanks dan .

Are all your lights standard with standard filament bulbs fitted
Are your engine revs hunting while the car is at idle?
Is the voltage output on the alternator fluctuating when tested?
Is the voltage at all the lighting plugs fluctuating?

Possibly the regulator on the alternator is beginning to fail.

I agree to what Macca Said, since you have flickering light inside and out,it's your alternator which cause this problem, even if it charges well, but there is an electrical circuit which is responsible about this issue,so you can replace it with a a new one,or replace the alternator for a used one.

ok so I have a alternator from my 2001 138 would it possible be the same as my 04 180 ? I would just swap it for the reason I know there was no faults with the old one

to be fair I did not take out the led number plate lights so will be trying that tomorrow as one is duller than the other !

thanks for input people

Glad you got it sorted.
I've merged the 2 topics on it into one since it's the same problem/solution on both.
