I was just wondering if it's legal to put a tint on headlights. I've seen cars which have a blue, yellow and even green tint when the headlights are on but not sure if that's allowed really? I've ebayd and seen its possible to get purple tinting vinyl.....I'd love it if I could have my front lights done. Very Happy

Well MOT rules and regulations state:
1.2: Headlights
A pair of headlights must: emit light of substantially the same colour and intensity. emit a steady colour of either white or yellow. be visible from a reasonable distance.
1.3: Brake lights
A brake light must emit a steady red light. At least 50% of the lamp must be visible from the rear Light must be visible from a reasonable distance
1.4: Reflectors
At least 50% of the reflecting surface must be visible from a reasonable distance.
1.5: Indicators
Every indicator must emit amber light. At least 50% of the lamp must be visible. Light must be visible from a reasonable distance.
Masks, or converter kits.
A headlamp or rear tail lamp altered in this way is not a reason for MOT rejection. So long as light outputs are not adversely reduced, it emits the appropriate correct colour and the mask is securely attached.
*Light tints are not suitable for laminated head lights as found on some models. Lighter shades and colours are not recommended for rear lights or indicators as output can be impaired

Well I'm still not sure. A purple tint will certainly not shine white or yellow! But also it will not reduce the amount of light as it's only a tint.

You answered your own question. Putting a coloured tint over white lights will then make it emit the colour of your tit, making it a MOT failure. It won't necessarily change the colour, bright enough white bulb would power through the tint, but it only takes one cop to not like you.

Bigger problem those stated above is that as soon as you put the film over the headlights, it invalidates the approval mark which then means the vehicle can be instantly removed from the road by police/VOSA if they see it being driven.
Chances of that are almost zero, but you may get the odd one whose wife is holding a polo between her knees which means he has to take his frustrations out on the public.

I'd have a word with Raz and see if he has had any problems with any he has done. He may know of a way around it (if there is one)

You could mask your headlights. Not exactly the same effect as you still have the chrome reflectors, but can make a big difference to the look. Most people go for black, but purple would be different and would suit your colour scheme.
