Can someone please advise what this noise is?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdtY4GsXV-A&feature=youtu.be
In the video revs are below 2000.
I have been told it is the bearings in the alternator.
Yes I know it sounds terrible.
Thanks in advance.

Could be...or might be the bearing in the tensioner or even the single pulley.
Best thing to do is to remove the belt and spin all the tensioners and bearings by hand. Any looseness or roughness is likely to be the source of the problem.

I had this noise, but not as bad, mine was a simple belt replacement.
I started the car up with the belt off, the noise had gone,(confirmation) so i proceeded to just replace the belt, and bingo no noise since.
Worth a try if you want to keep costs to a minimum.
I also was convinced it was pulleys, tensioner.
