Just dug up this old post for you to ponder at, gives some insight to why you have a resistor in the wiring loom.

I've fixed it :):):):):) so pleased . Ok so I bought a comms unit made by Valeo £134 I fitted it today and drivers airbag light went out but still had passenger light on grrrr so I took the centre consul out and removed the air bag module and I found a frayed wire coming out the connector which must have been done when the Bradford man removed as this light was not on previously and he must have caught the wire as it's right next to connecting bolt you need to remove, and this wire was shorting out against the body of the car Throwing up the fault so I used electric tape to insulate this to stop the shorting out and put everything back together and thank god no more airbag light! My only advise to anyone in my situation is avoid any so called repair men that are not approved as I've learnt the hard way but I am pleased I managed to fit the comms and spot the frayed wire . Total cost £134 +£40 fuel to get to Bradford and back. Thanks for your help

I am shocked that any repair man would play with airbag system with battery connected. The inside of a car is NOT the place to be when a bag goes bang. it is bad enough when you are restrained by a seat belt and the bag goes off. Any closer than that and the pain and bruises are nasty.
