Loving the 206 Experience

Hi All

Glow plugs were changed 5ish years ago, and i have a sneaky feeling 1 or2 could be on the way out or they already are, so i am in the process of removing them to check and test them.

Car in the morning starting ok, just not ticking over as good as usual which is telling me lack of heat from the glow plugs, revs are ok after 2 mins or so.

Any advice on removing them, so i do not end up snapping them, i know to do it when the engine is warm and dw40 them, before i attempt slackening them.

Any tips appreciated Laughing

Do you know what the glow plugs do? Nothing to do with tick over.

As far as I know,the glow plugs works all the time,to have the exact heat need for the diesel to burn correctly,but they have a relay,and the time they work depends on the temp.

And don't forget to check the Pre heat in the fuel filter housing.

I am fully aware that todays modern engine,the glow plug light is mainly to do with emmisions than cold starting.
If myself was of the assumptoin the glow plugs were all about cold starting, then my thread would have been about struggleing to start etc.
From what i have read the glow plug light comes on below 20 degrees, which takes the reading from the engine temperature sensor, then with the assistance of the ecu gets the cat upto a quick temperature to regenerate itself, in that period even though the glow plug light is off on the dash, the glow plugs are still working, until the engine gets upto temperature, that is why when you start a diesel engine from cold you don't let the car stand at idle, and is best to drive the car straight away.
With my senario i have problems in the morning, only when the glow plug light is showing, and after starting i think the regeneration process is a bit off with the revs, that is why i am thinking faulty glow plug, plugs.
And Timon 2210 might have a point in that it may be a problem with the fuel temperature sensor.

What engine is it? Cats don't regenerate, dpf does though. Bit that wouldn't cause an idle problem.

Regeneration is for vehicles ONLY fitted with a DPF filter, and happens after constant driving NOT on start up

Regeneration is were it brings the DPF filter upto approx 600 to 800C to burn away the soot caught by the DPF fluid stuck inside

You need to be doing a leak off test on the injectors or at the very least looking at some parameters
