well the water pump was leaking on my gti changed it for a new one and it was still leaking.on close inspection I think the block has cracked at the back of the pump.so not happy thought I might try some k seal but moved it out of the garage got a couple of feet and all of a sudden all the water is on the floor.looks like the block has split so what do I do?
I have a spare gti with a good engine but I think swapping it will be a nightmare even though I have the tools
so is it time to sell up
not very happy at the moment

had a think and its time for swapping engines
will I have to change any electrical stuff when I swap the engine?

It takes a fair bit to crack the block. I've known it happen when bolts have been over tightened though but not from every day running or even when the engine has been boiled dry. There are normally other parts that will give first.

If you've got the engine there ready to go in, then that might be the easier option, but personally I would find the source of the leak and make sure it's not a bit of crap stopping the seal sitting correctly or even a split in a pipe that's being hidden by a jubilee clip.

Check the metal pipe across the back of the engine. they have a "O" ring seal that goes pop at the water pump

well good news day and bad news day
first the good news
its not the engine,it is actually the plastic housing that the pump bolts onto so swapped the housing and alls good.[or is it?]took it for a blast and no leaks so very happy
but of course its French
left it ticking over and
bad news
it boiled itself up!!
let it cool down and thought I might have had a air lock went for a 4 mile drive and its fine but if I leave it ticking over it boils,as the fan isn't kicking in.checked the fan and it spins freely so any ideas ?
what to try next?
