Hi I decided to check my front spax shock as I've always wondered if they are the correct way around.

Here's how mine looked in comparison to a picture I found on another thread.

How do I know what's right and wrong?

I have always fitted them as you have them fitted in the left picture
the right picture looks like the car is jacked up with no wheel on anyway

It is jacked up! This is from my track car post. But as I have said in response to the same post on my thread, the spring is not seated correctly.

It is not quite clear in the pic above, but this is how springs SHOULD sit when correctly fitted.

 


Note where the end of the spring fits the base of the shock. If yours doesn't look like this, then your spring has moved out of place as a result of getting to much "air", or you also have the shock round the wrong way! Very Happy

Hold that thought - the seats will be the same whichever way you look at them, the difference between them is the bracket for the tie bar. It extends from the shock tube and biases toward the back of the car. Look at the bars on the deck and they should be close to vertical running top to bottom. If they are at an angle (eg, 11-5 on a clock as opposed to 12-6), then there is a problem, plus the bar itself will be very close to the driveshaft.

But that aside... this is still confusing as the seats on yours are made for a spring spiralled the wrong way; hence the spring not seating properly.

I might be wrong, but unless Peugeot changed the shocks part way through production of the model, I would say the shocks are wrong.

Hopefully this will open up tomorrow when more people see and you will have a definite answer...

Ok thanks. The suspension setup is spax springs and dampers. Been on a few years now lol

I'm not convinced that damper pictured is correct. The dampers from Bilstein are numbered left and right. I'll check to see if the drop link tab should be further forward or to the back.

Yours I assume. The Bilsteins are handed left and right as Edward says - again the difference being the lug for the drop links/tie bar... whatever you call them....

The Bilstein might be right actually because I recall the top drop link nut being difficult to access unless steering lock was applied.
