Me again.. Not sure if this is an issue or if it'll be fixed if I get the timing sorted... But the car ('99 GTI) is idling at around 750rpm (first line below 1k revs) and when it's just sitting idling the needle rises and falls ever so slightly and I can hear it in the engine aswell.. Just wondering if it's an issue that needs attention?

welcome to the club, had this issue for over a year, doesnt seem to harm performance. careful who does what as there can be a million causes:

plugs
coilpack
timing
MAP sensor
Air/vacuum leaks

I've had all of the above done/changed and it still persists (53 plate 136 GTi)

Hopefully I'll be getting the timing sorted soon so I'll see if it resolves after that, if not, how would I go about cleaning the throttle body? Is there a thread on here? (I'm not really experienced with cars)

Now it's started to idle above 1k on start up, then after the engine warms up a little the idle drops gradually...

Mine does this too. It usually drops after about half a minute.
