My faith full little Pug has failed her Emissions test as follows.

Fast idle

CO : Limit 0.30% actual 0.50%
HC : Limit 200ppm actual 150 ppm - Pass
\ : Limit .970-1.030 actual 1.071

second Fast idle
CO : Limit 0.30% actual 0.58%
HC : Limit 200ppm actual 201 ppm
\ : Limit .970-1.030 actual 1.051

Any advise where to start to sort this out ?

Was thinking new cat and clean Lambda sensor ?

She is an old girl at T reg but only done 85K, and did have a loose joint to the back box.

Thank you

When was the car last serviced?

Are you using supermarket fuel or something like Shell V Power?

A good hard run on a motorway can be enough to give it a clean out and reduce the emissions to a passable level.

I was given the car in Oct last year, but no idea when last had service.
Buying some Bosch super4 plugs today and have used up the last of supermarket fuel with redex in it. Now filled up with Shell advance.

Pay for a service. Its cheaper than you'd think.

You'll probably need a new lambda sensor too as it looks like your fuel is running rich

Thanks Pepole.
I have put new exhaust on inc cat, super 4 plugs and V Power fuel = CO level worse.

Going to do oil flush and change, oil filter and Lambda sensor tomorrow.

The car is solid no rust anywhere and only failed MoT on this, but does have I think, a head gasket problem and needs new clutch.

No offense but does it not occur to you to try putting a new air filter back in and then re testing it Confused

Car is running too rich, hence no air filter = maximum amount of air going in to help weaken mixture.

More air means more fuel. Put the filter in.
