Right, I need to replace my oil sump seal.

Is it just a simple clean up of the contact parts of the sump and simply replace the seal with the new one and bolt back on?

Or are there anything special I need to do?

There is no seal to replace as such. You need a high temperature silicon sealant. Is it leaking?

Originally from the factory it was a sealant.

There are now sump gaskets available from aftermarket suppliers.

Toyota C-HR GR Sport 2.0 Hybrid with JBL & Alcantara packs.

Yes, it is leaking.....very slowly.
Well, under ECP, they sell one as "Elring Sump Gasket" (Part No.: 363545000)

Most of the time when people reseal them even with the correct sealant they normally don't cure the leak as they get something wrong:

Either distort the sump.
Too little or to much sealant
Don't let the sealant fully cure before putting the oil back in.

That's why there is an aftermarket gasket available, people are just in to much of a hurry to do the job correctly.

...or maybe there isn't enough proper standard procedures for those who do wish to do such things.....DIY maybe.....or even the mechanic at some garages as there are more money to be made.....just get it done quickly.....?

So you guys think the after market gaskets are a good thing then?

Sealing with sealant is the correct procedure, that's what I'd stick with.

My local garage will insist on the car being left for 2 day's if someone wants a leaky sump resealing with sealant, they try & leave at least 24 hours for the sealant to cure before putting oil back in.

I had one done there many year's back, never leaked after they resealed it.

Well, I can recall when I had mine done last time by a garage, I had my car back on the very same day.....couple of years ago now.

Takes discipline for a garage to insist procedures over money!.....not many I think...tbh.

I left mine to cure for 24 hours. Never leaked since, touch wood.
