Hello, I am trying to drag my sister's 53 plate 206 sw through its MOT (failed on 8 counts) one of the things it failed on was the nearside outer bush on the rear axle transverse bar (part number for the whole bar 5150 91)... I'm struggling to get the damn thing off, is there some trick to it? To be fair I have only undone the bolt next to the wheel, not the one in the centre yet because I haven't got a deep socket or ring spanner that will fit, I do have an angle grinder though!
I'm not convinced the bush is the problem though, the whole bar seems to be twisting (not twisted) the offside bar seems to sit in a fairly natural position, but the nearside one looks like it is being forced in a clockwise direction, looking in from the nearside wheel.
Any thoughts?

Photos, thats the only way we will be able to help. Just remove the bars and then they cant test them on it

Just remove the complete unit. By that I mean the sway bars from the centre to rear arm.

That's what I'm trying to do, can't get the blighter off though, I don't want to force it if there is something I'm missing. It is sufficiently complicated that a guide has been produced, according to Lee in this thread:

The Haynes manual just says it's easy, but doesn't give any details.

Finally got it out, a swimming pool's worth of penetrating oil down the bolt hole, a stilson to get it rotating then mole grips to work it out, end looks a bit chewed now though.
Next question, do I remove the other side and send it back for the MOT without these things, or can anyone suggest a cost effective way (i.e. not £80 from the dealer for a whole new bar) to replace the bush?

A little follow up, in case anyone searching later finds this thread and wonders where to get a cheap replacement from... I have no idea, because I didn't.
I got the electric drill out, and using a flapwheel and wire brush attachment I got rid of the rust, used a couple of cans of spray paint from Poundland and a bit of washing-up liquid on the bushes and put it back in for a retest.
It passed!
