I purchased some clocks from ebay, i disconnected the battery and then removed old speedometer and installed new set now I have engine management light illuminated, I removed new set and plugged old set back in and there is no illuminated engine management light on so the problem is with the new set.
Is this normal when changing the speedometers over or was it a previous fault with the vehicle they were removed from (meaning I will have to plug it into a computer to take it out) ?
thanks in advance

Is the bulb in the old clock working? (Should come on with second click of key and go off after a few seconds of the engine running). Could be that the fault was always there but just not showing.
The data is stored in the ECU and should have nothing to do with the clocks.

It should come on & stay on at the pre start check & then go out once the engine has started.

If you put the old clocks back in and at no point does the light come on during any of the ignition clicks of the key then you can be sure that it has nothing to do with the clocks.
Either way I would get the fault codes read because it is telling you something isn't quite right.

From what you said,I would say that changing the clocks has nothing to do with the EML on,as it takes signal from the ECU,and the guys been telling you that you might have your old clock EML light bulb dead,or someone took it off so that he can sell the car,so when you turn the ignition on,with the old clocks if there is no EML light at all, then there is nothing wrong with the new clocks, and you need to fix the fault causing it to be on,i believe that is the case u r having.

Same thing happened when I changed my clocks. I had it checked out and the cat needs to be replaced.
