Hi,

I'll upload a video of the seat at some point today to show this better, but it's like the mechanism in the seat is out of sync with where the seat back is actually fixed.

Hopefully somebody with a good understanding of the recline mechanism will be able to offer some advice of how I can get this back to working, as at the moment the front seat is totally unusable, so passengers need to sit in the back.

If you push the seat back backwards the seat reclines right back and will keep going back for as long as you push it, when you let go it will spring back into the resting position it is currently in.

It won't tilt forward anymore, it's almost like the mechanism is in reverse. You can push it backwards without actually pulling the handle forward, so the mechanism could be out of sync in some way to where the seat is, almost like it needs to be forced or adjust back to the correct position.

I'm praying this doesn't need a new seat to fix, the car has Black and Red Leather seats, no electrics on the seats (Not sure if some models have electric hight adjustment etc). Any help at all appreciated massively!

Thanks so much for any help.

Just sounds like the release is locked on.

If you pull up the carpety flap behind the seat (in line with the recliner) you should see a cable that connects to the handle. Check that it hasn't snagged or jumped out of the locating slot.

Thanks I'll give this a go soon as I can.

The weird thing is that it pushes backwards at the minute, so if you sit in it you go right back, so obviously cant use the seat. Hope this works and its clear once I look properly under the carpet. Fingers crossed

That's what the lever does if its pushed backwards, so the cable could be snagged or dislocated

Hi,

I've tried taking a look at the cable and can't see anything specific that's wrong with it. However it's clear something is not quite right.

I've uploaded some photos, and videos showing the problem itself (The video that shows the seats in full, how they push back etc.) and then some closer up on the cable of the seat.

If this sheds any light on what could be wrong please let me know. In general if any parts of the seat are damaged are they replaceable, or is it pretty much a whole seat if something like a spring was damaged in it?

This is the link to the pictures and the videos. I managed to pull off the cover from the passenger seat on the side. Pushing the handles back or forth does nothing they don't move as if they are stuck.

The seat looks like it's been butchered.

The second video, the blue lug should locate into the crossbar which looks like it's been bent 90 degrees upwards out of the way

Is it possible to strip these seats down and still be able to put everything back together. As in would it be possible to buy another seat and reuse it's frame only, or will I need to replace the whole seat and find specifically a red/black one if I want them to match?

Can you not just bent the bar back?

It'd probably be a lot easier to fix the one bar than to swap the seat covers over, despite what Edd China would do!

I'm struggling to see the bar in question in the video, I tried going back outside but in the dark finding it difficult to have a proper look and compare the two seats.

Is it the bar highlighted in Red that looks to be bent out of the way? Sorry if it seems really dumb that I can't see it right away :-/ Quite embarrassed it's not obvious to me, but they say there's no such thing as a stupid question:

I really appreciate your help on this so far.

If it's the bar highlighted does it need bending back down. I can see the blue lug is just loose on the broken seat, rather than being seated into anything so I get that that is the problem, just need to know which bar to try and bend back now, really hoping it's fixable as it will be much less of a PITA if I can just bend it back.

Tried taking a photo of the driver site blue lug, when it's bent back, does it need to seat into the bar that's put back into position like this one, it looks like it's seated/clipped in to a bar here:

I think I was definitely confused about which bit is bent out of place, as i've clipped the blue lug into place so it sits the same as the drivers side, without bending anything back. Example picture:

1drv.ms/1xsSShO (Pic from the drivers side as can't get one of the passenger seat until morning now)

When I try and operate the lever in either direction it doesn't budge, so is jammed in some way, which i'm guessing is due to this bent bar that I'm not able to locate at the moment. I'm going to take it to a garage as soon as I get a chance, but hoping I can get it resolved DIY if possible before needing to do that.

If it can't be fixed i'm going to have to buy a replacement seat and move over the cover, but it doesn't look like a simple task and i'll probably end up paying somebody to move the cover over from one seat to another as a last resort.

Just taken a photo of mine, with the seat folded forwards.

The blue lug locates into the cross bar, like so:

On your second video, it doesn't and is flapping around.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do that, especially at this hour.

I've now put the blue lug into the same position on mine so it's no longer flapping around. But unfortunately the problem is still there.

In the first video, where I push the seat backwards, the position the seat returns to is as far forward as it will go. The lever on the side doesn't do anything and feels "jammed" as it wont go either forwards or backwards.

As the blue lug is now in the same position, maybe it's something else and there is nothing bent out of place as it first appeared. I cant figure out why it just returns back to the position it does. Stumped on what it may now be.

check the bolt that holds the handle is actually tightened all the way.

Had a similar problem and it only required the handle being tightened.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the suggestion, i've ensured the handles are secured fully and tightly, and i've taken them off and put them back on too.

If I can't figure something out today I'm dropping it into a garage tomorrow to have it looked at, but not sure they will be able to do much more, so still hoping to find a fix.

If I can't and the seat needs replacing i'm going to switch the cover over to another seat or something (Or get somewhere to do it, if I can find somewhere in the North West / Manchester area)

To be fair, if you can compare the drivers side that's working to the passenger side then you should be able to get a rough idea as to whether anything is missing, broken or fitted incorrectly

Might be able to make a diagram of a working system for you, also
