Hi guys, i'm new on this forum, just need some advice on which 206 to buy.
I currently have a 306 hdi but i'm looking to get a 206 2.0 hdi or 1.6td gti. Is the latter as reliable as the 2.0?
Any info would be appreciated

2.0 HDI is the one you want.
The 1.6 HDI is like holding on to a hand grenade with the safety pin removed.

Lol cool. What is the space like in rear, has anybody owned a 306 to be able to compare? I have 2 kids so need space for car seats. It looks smaller but can't really tell looking at pics

I have 2 car seats in the back of mine, 1 booster seat style and 1 Graco baby car seat base, and can still fit an adult in there too. The biggest issue with space is in the boot. Get a folded travel system in there and it's full.

That's good to know! The other main reason for thinking about a 206 is the 3 x 3point seatbelts, dont really like using the middle lapbelt for passengers.
Is there anything specific i need to be wary of/check when buying a 2.0 hdi?
At the moment im stuck between a 206 hdi and an alfa 147 1.9jtd :s

Don't think all the hdi's have 3 x 3 point belts so you may have to go to higher spec.
As an Alfa owner ... I'd definitely look at one ... they aren't as unreliable as people say ... mine's a petrol 156 with 195,000 on clock ... miles!
With the 1.9 make sure it has had cam belts changed and water pump ... the pump is the weak link if left beyond the change period too long.

Ideally i'm thinking of sticking with a peugoet hdi as i know the engines are pretty strong.
At the moment my stage 1 306 hdi needs a clutch and i'm not sure if i want to spend £300 for a clutch on a car thats worth ~£700. The 206 would be a nice option. I've been reading a lot about a weird driving position due to offset steering wheel/pedals, is there any truth in that?

Don't find them weird: or even noticed. My old Alfa 75 was worse ...
If you have large feet or wear boots you can catch your sole on the steering column u/j!
I only have a 1.4 HDi Style and I don't find it overly comfortable on very long journeys but that could just be the naff seats it has. I'm used to the Recaros in the Alfa I guess. I may upgrade the interior of the 206 one day ...

If the 306 just needs a clutch get it changed. You could buy a 206 that needs stuff doing. Better the devil you know....

That is another thing i'm thinking. The pro's for a 206 would be it looks newer, with the right spec has 3x3point seatbelts, while the 306 is a safer (in terms of knowing it doesnt need anything major doing) but slightly older.
I think i'll be getting the clutch done and will go and test drive/look at a 206 hdi in person and i should realise which i prefer
