So i started the pug up this morning and I was greeted with my engine not turning, a 'bong' sound, and my clock and date reset. I tried again and the car started up.

Can someone shed some light on what happened before my car started up?

The car has started fine all day since

Cheers Guys

I had the same problem as you when my battery went although mine didn't start up afterwards. Could be a faulty battery?

Your battery is going to die soon my friend, the Bong sound indicates that, and it wouldn't harm to check the positive and negative cable leads going to battery, and earth straps too.

As long as your alternator is working correctly, the battery should be fine whilst you're driving. But I would look into getting a replacement battery soon. Especially if you rely on your car for work/commuting.

Okay, so where I work a guy who used to work for Peugeot as a technician had a look at it and the Positive, Negative and Earth are fine, everything is as it should be.

He said the 12v are running through it but he will have another look tomorrow with some more equipment.

I asked him what he reckons about the car in general and how it sounds and he said a few things need touching up on - He saw that there was no pollen filter - now should they have checked this on the MOT?

Also my exhaust is bowing in the middle - would it be best to just support it up or would you suggest I replace the whole rear and mid section of the exhaust - reason being I have only just recently had the front section replaced itself

No, pollen filter isn't checked as part of an MOT.

Without seeing the exhaust we wont know if it simply need's resealing / a new clamp OR if it need's replacing.

Best thing is get it up on a ramp & have a look.

Right okay, thanks for that Smile Now I just need to see if he can get a better look at it to see what he thinks, its looking a tad rusty tbh.

Might be better off in the long run getting a new one.

I'll keep my eye out for any bargains

Cheers Guys

Be warned there are several different options / combinations of exhaust middle & rear box for the smaller engine versions of the 206.

A new pollen filter is cheap & takes seconds to fit.

Okay, thanks.

Can you recommend any exhausts that would be better for my 1.1?

Yeah I ordered one today and had a look at how to fit and seems fairly simple

Tested my battey today and it read

Good, Recharge - Which means it obviously needs recharging

Volts - 12,22v - I was told that should be double that
Measured - 199en(a)
Rating - £20en(a) - im guessing this means it is at 199en(a) and it should be 320en(a)

Is the sticker on the top of my battery says 320en(a)

So do we reckon a good recharge will sort all of these out then?

Who told you that, a truck mechanic?

Voltage ............Approximate charge
12.75 V ............100%
12.50 V............ 75%
12.25 V ............50%
12.05 V ............25%
11.90 V............ 0%

First step would be to give it a charge and then see if it's holding power.
Cold weather is renowned for killing off weak batteries.

Haha. So I guess that he is used to testing batteries on motorhomes - I work at Brownhills in Newark and he works on all the Peugeot Motorhomes that come in so im guessing he is used to higher than that.

Yeah gonna see if I can get it charged sooner rather than later what with now having 5 days off and probably wont use the car much over those days.

Quick question - How come the battery wouldnt have been charged while I was driving?
