Hello and welcome to my problem. Lights get on shall we.
My car is a 2004 1.4 SW manual. I got it 2 weeks ago, and have only just noticed, because it is parked in a multi storey car park, when I start the car, the reverse lights are lit really dimly, both sides, and when I indicate right, the right side reverse light alternate flashes with the right indicator, draining some of the indicator power/brightness.
The left side reverse light stays the same dimness. If I indicate left, the left reverse light stays dimly lit, does NOT alternate flash, so it's just the right side that flashes alternately.
I have read on another forum it it usually a bad earth, so I got a length of bared ended wire, clamped one end to the boot catch, and shoved the other end into the side of the socket in the back of the tail light plug. The reverse light went out completely, on both sides, however, if I stick it in reverse, then the reverse lights DON'T come on if I leave the wire in place.
I disconnected the wire and the reverse lights, both sides came back on dimly again, and they came on as normal when in reverse. I have ordered a new reverse light switch, and will fit when it arrives, but if that doesn't solve the problem, what else can it be?
Mucho grassy ar5e for any suggestions/help.

It will be the earth's for the rear lamp clusters, its a common problem on the SW.
Clean up the terminals on the cluster assembly where the multi plug connects on both sides, normally the earth terminal will be slightly dull or blackened due to high resistance.
Also check that water hasn't got inside the light cluster & is shorting out any of the bulbs, remove each one & check the contacts in the bulb holder.

Hi, I did that. Opened up the connectors from the car side, removed each socket one by one and unfortunately, all were clean. I also checked each pin on the light cluster side, all clean aswell. I was in the process of changing all the rear bulbs for LED's anyway, but all the old bulbs were clean, as were all the bulb contacts, positive terminal and the negative sides, but I got some sand paper on all of them just to be sure, but still no joy.
I did look inside each hole where the bulbs go into the tail cluster units, all holes inside were dry too, so everything to be checked was checked all A OK.
I rear in the other Peugeot forum, Peugeot Central to check for the earth mount/bolting point, but that was for the normal hatchback 206's, not the SW. I followed the wiring loom from the plug in the tail lights down the inside of the boot side panels, along the rear edge of the boot carpet, but all the wires were in a loose sheath, and both sides met in the middle in front of the boot catch, and went through a grommet in the floor under the boot floor. Couldn't see any wire coming out of the sheath before meeting in the middle.
