Are they larger diameters? If not i wouldnt worry, i may consider a paddle clutch as you did say about future engine upgrading

Not so sure about diameter, I think the 180 one is a tad lighter than the 138. I'll have to pull the one out of my scrap 138 lump and weigh them both.

Well the thrust bearing decided to well and truly s**t itself this morning, and take out the crank sensor with it. Picking up an LUK clutch this afternoon for £86.26 + VAT. Car will be back on the road by this evening.

Serves me right for trying to be organized about it all. Could guarantee if I hadn't have given it so much as a second thought it would have lasted until next week when I was planning on getting it up on axle stands for a couple of days.
Ah well, ive got a couple of good crank sensors lying about. Few hours in the garage this afternoon and it'll be good to go again.

Had the same problem myself. The clutch was fine but the cable and thrust bearing failed. I don't reckon it's possible to get an uprated thrust bearing in general?

Right hand drive GTI is a hydraulic clutch so there isn't a cable to worry about - just a slave cylinder instead.
The standard thrust bearing with a decent brand of clutch kit will be fine.

Bit of grease on the input draft for the bearing doesn't hurt either. I replaced my salve cylinder as well when I did mine. Old one had a leak in it somewhere. Had to bleed it every few months.
