Hi all,
Well ive had the 206 for just over a.month and its had a new clutch fitted by the garage i bought it from after it slipping so badly it wasnt safe to drive on the motorway.
Knowing the rear axle is in a bad state i.e drivers side wheel really loose due to radius arm bearings. My dad followed the other morning on the way to dropping the car off to have the clutch done and said it was extremely bad. He said the wheel looked like it was about to drop off as though the wheel bearing had collapsed.
It constantly rattles and really bangs! As the the axle is hitting the underneath of the car! Making the car very skittish around the bends even at low speed.
The previous owner has fitted ripspeed alloys and put spacers on the back end as the top of the wheel leans inwards. If it really is that bad could the wheel come off?
How much would a garage charge on labour costs to swap the knackered axle for a reconditioned axle that id supply?
My parents are saying that when funds allow to just get rid and get a focus. I can see why as ive had a few pugs as also my brother has and we have had a few issues due to the design or materials used..

There was a thread on here recently, rough charge was £200 for the axle and 3 to 4 hours labour
If that was me doing it, £30 per hour making a £105 total labour
Peugeots aren't bad if they are regularly looked after, fords are by far worse as everything snaps on them due to the rust! Ive seen 08 plate focus' rear shock bolts snap in the arm like its common place!
Vw arent much better either

So it'd be around 300 to 350 for buying axle n having it fitted by a garage.
This pugs been neglected i think, my brothers 306 cab has had some serrious money spent on it, although there arent any faults with it now at the minute hes said he'll be selling.
Fords rust yeah true, thats why i came to peugeot but im finding everyones breaking them or scrapping them for peanuts and im having reliability issues.. im just going to see how it goes until funds allow rear axle to be done and hope for no more problems till then.
Is the car okay to drive still or could the radius arm or axle come away? It does bang very loudly and can be felt through the car when driving.

What else makes you think of getting rid, the clutch went which is wear and tear and will happen on all cars (recently did a honda which the bill came to £1150 with it needing a new dmf), once the axles done why get rid?
As above Peugeots get a bed reputation because people dont want to spend money when is it relatively low cost compaired to many makes. Yes they may be prone to certain things but generally speaking when they do go wrong they are cheap to fix.

I had trouble getting it to start the other night for no reason, bumping jumping etc nothing just resulted in the starter clicking
p**sed off i rocked around on the drivers seat and trying to start it at the same time.. the bugger started, following morning eml came on, buzzing noise from ecu, dad tapped it and then it went out and hasnt been on since.
Starts fine too but no explenation why. The boot floor underside is really rusty ( hoping to get the underside cleared up and rust proofed come summer, then the rear axle sorted as soon as funds allow ( before summer hopefully!) And put some original 206 wheels on it.
I just dont want to put more money into a car thats clearly been neglected to find even after spending 1k buying it, its just had clutch done, then put another 200-300 into it having the rear axle done and then original 206 wheels to something else like turbo go and be a constant source of issues. As the car isnt anything special like a classic car or anything. Im hoping to get it fixed so not have any issues other than normal service stuff, brakes tyres that kind of thing. And put some serious miles on it in the coming years but everyones telling me ive only had it a month and needs so much work doing..
