I have had a call today about a little 1.4 8v 2002 petrol that is having a few issues. After a few minutes of idle the car will cut out but always restarts.
If the car is driven reasonably hard the exhaust manifold glows a dull red after about a mile.
He has changed a lot of the sensors on the engine and its on its second catalytic convertor as he thought it was blocked.

This is a little out of my field so I am throwing it open to the experts. I will try to answer any questions

I had this once on my 1.4, misfire, no power, manifold would glow red after a few miles of driving, turned out to be the coil pack. And the excess fuel was detonating inside the cat causing the glow.

Shut it u stupid little f**k, what's the point in posting in all my treads being such a c***? Least I can afford a gti180, and to get the cam belt done!

So apparently everyone knows my financial situation? If I wanted a 180 I would have bought a 180 simples Smile

I would go with either coil park/spark plugs, or an injector sticking open causing over fuel. So check injectors or wiring harness for damage.

As above, sounds like a misfire of some description

I need a list of what he has and hasnt changed along with where the parts were sourced from

My old car did this (1.4 8v) when my ICV was acting up. Obviously the 3k rpm idle didnt help this at all.....
