My 10 year old 206 failed MOT with "Offside rear trailing arm has excessive play in a pin/bearing". Agreed to have a new axle fitted. Have i chucked away good money?

Did you get a recon axle or brand new one? My 54 plate failed MOT for rear axle last october among other things. Got a recon Axle with 2 year warranty for £200 plus £100 to fit.

Brand new (so I was told) cost me £250 and £260 to investigate and fit - the dealer's hourly rate is high (used to be £70/hr. so most likely more now).
My concern is that it might not have needed a new axle but could have done with a lesser repair.

At £250 it won't be new, it will be reconditioned.
By the time play is noticed in the trailing arms generally the pins are badly worn and are beyond repair anyway.

250 is just to look at it, go else where and get a recon axle
