Hi there,

I have a pugeot 206cc 2.0 model.

For some time now the electric fan won't kick in. It's not been a real issue due to the car staying cold while doing my daily commute.

But, traffic is causing me issues. The engine gets warm, go past 90'c but no fan.

Having read online it's a common issue in the relays.

But, I'm unintending to fix then, I'd rather wire the fan to a ignition connection and have them run all the time.

Can someone point me in the direction of where the power/negitive to the fan are, so I can then wire that to run all the time.

The fan connector is right next to the relays you don't want to fix.

Just fix the problem correctly instead of bodging.

I can see through the front bumper a connection on the bottom left, with two wires of the top of my head.

Is this the power to the fan? or is that a relay? - I'm only temporarily "bodging" it due to lack of finances currently. Once sorted, i plan on ordered new relays etc.

I'd appreciate just some guidance on the power/negative location if you can at all help?

You can pick up the relays cheap enough, the botch fix you propose will probably cost as much in wire as it would for 2 cheap relays.

Why bother bodging it by having the fan on all the time? Relays don't cost that much.

Besides you'll cause the engine to run cooler, therefore causing the ECU to pump more fuel through which in turn will waste fuel not to mention what it could do to your cat converter.

IF you really want to do it I would suggest wiring a switch in there so you have more control.

Ok, i actually see where your comming from.

I do have a switch sat in my toolbox thinking about it. - Where abouts are the power/negative roughly for the fan? If im looking directly at it without the grill in the way?

You can fix it properly and thoroughly for less than £15

Im well aware of that, but im a telephone engineer by trade. So i have the materials to temporarily ensure the engine doesn't suffer. Until a time i can afford to spent £15. (Yes, trust me times are that tight right now.)

I have no seen the relays are dirt cheap. So im going to maplins afterwork to source 2 to replace mine.

Is it just a case of replacing them and repairing any dodgey coroded wires?

Also, what size relay should i buy as in AMP?

Would this be ok?

I dont know. I'd rather buy them before 6pm (when maplins shuts) so atleast i have anything i MAY need to fix.

30 amp are the ones youll want, just make sure you have the correct number of pins.

The wiring harness design is really p**s poor & not very well weather protected.

Im working on a 53 plate one at the moment that really needs the cooling fan harness replacing, trouble is its part of the main under bonnet harness.

I have got hold of the early type separate harness & im planning on splicing it in to the original wiring harness for a permanent fix ( weather permitting at weekend )

Im also going to modify the harness to make it more weather resistant.
