hello..long time no visit..

but time for a new car again..

just wondering if you guys think the 180 is worth the extra over a standard GTi?

anything to look out for between the two for faults etc?

and how easy are they to work on? looking at the bay pictures of the 180, it dosnt look very tool friendly in there.

or, anything else to consider? was looking at an ST170..but cant quite seem to find one that hasnt got intergalactic mileage.

Very Happy

Seen a few 180 v's GTi debates on here over the years
But long story short (IMO) the 180 is the better car.

The price difference these days will be peanuts. I prefer the 180 but the 138 wheels are better for the size of the car.
2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

16" on most 138s

Yeah they fit OK very close to the caliper, you can't have balancing weights on the inside of the rim (next to the caliper).

GTI is ready

For out of the block power, go for the 180. For future upgrades, go for a 138

Lightweight wheels much better than 17 .. I can only fit 205 40 17 tyres on my 17 wheels and they rims catch the road they are heavy and have less of a response on acceleration. team dynamics pro race 16 "s are the way forward.

If it aint broke dont fix it !
