Hello,

I have recently acquired a 2002, 1.4hdi 206 that had a clutch change about 4k ago (no proof obviously but I can see other works that he said was done!). Clutch as such is performing fine in terms of pedal travel, gear selection/ engagements in all gears. However the problem is that at biting point, when starting from stationary in first of reverse gears, I feel noticeable juddering; a sort of vibration and judder that one feels when a higher gear is selected at much lower speed. This in turn forces me to accelerate faster (not a good idea!). All other gears are fine (when the car is already moving) including dropping down to first gear (when car is moving very slowly).

From several other posts over the net, I understand that a possible cause of this judder is deteriorating rubber mountings. Engine vibration/sound on its own is fine, both at idle and stationary rev. In the engine compartment, I can only see two engine rubber mounts that are on the left hand side near wash bottle and both seems structurally sound to. I believe there a number of other mountings, especially underneath, that may require changing.

I will appreciate assistance with the following information:
1. How long it takes for the new clutch to adjust (bed-in)? Is it possible to have such juddering during adjustment period?
2. How many engine/ gearbox mountings are there in my car and where they are?
3. What mountings are likely to be the main culprits (especially when engine on its own is vibrating fine under idle and rev. at stationary)? Name/ part numbers (possibly with images)? And how easily they can be replaced?
4. How to check (visually or otherwise) and verify if the mounting is deteriorated?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Im curious, I have an issue after changing the clutch where the whole car shakes at 5th gear around 70 to 80 as I am accelerating, is this similar to what your experiencing?

The juddering could be from a warped flywheel, which is quite common and would noticeable at low speed

Thanks for your input. Slowly I am adjusting myself. So as long as gears are engaging and car is running fine, it should be OK.
