Hey all,

As the heading suggests, my engine management light has started flashing, after a load of searching the net and here I have come across the issue with everyone suggesting it's down to a packed up coil pack or needs a new set of spark plugs.

The thing is that I don't seem to have any noticeable loss of power, the light flashes randomly, could it be a spark plug on it's way out? Just wanted to know if a loss of power is always experienced or if the power loss is still to come or something worse?

Thanks

ps. It's a GTI 130 99'

No point guessing what the light means.
Get it connected to a diagnostic machine and have the codes read, ideally with it being a 1999 plate connect to Peugeot Planet as an EOBD reader may not work.

Until the codes are read and you have been given a general direction of where the fault lies, you could end up throwing money at parts that don't need replacement.

According to the handbook if the light is flashing then you risk damage to the catalytic converter.
I have Peugeot Planet/DiagBox.

Honestly you need the codes read, but could be anything to do with the injection, ignition or emission control system.
I have Peugeot Planet/DiagBox.

Cheers for that, Im taking it into the garage on Monday. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious. The car seems a bit rough on idle so I hope it's just spark plugs.

update

So i had the codes read today, £54.

Two errors cropped up

P0606 Engine control unit and P0262 Injected fuel quantity cylinder 1 too high.

Guy at the garage suggested replacing the injector at £120. I don't really have the cash at the moment do wondered if anyone knew how easy it was to do as looks easy enough...

Cheers for the info, I was thinking of maybe replacing the spark plugs first as this seems like an even easier job, and reading up it could be the plugs causing the issues.

The codes have given you the answer. Injector.

If you want to do easiest job first fit a new battery.
Next easiest after that is probably air filter.

Sorry, easiest is to check tyre pressure.

I hope you realise this is tongue in cheek!
