I have a strange one for ya. I had the front shocks changed just before Christmas..the old ones were leaking and creaking! Anyway, all was fine. Now that it is summer driving along with the windows open every time I go over a bump on the left hand side, at the front, it makes a noise. The only way I can describe it is if you imagine a nut and bolt with a washer....the nut isn't screwed down all the way and the washer would be bouncing about making a noise. I have taken it back to the garage and nothing was loose. They checked the discs, pads...the spring, had it up on the ramp and found nothing wrong at all. When I had the cat changed at a different garage they couldn't find anything loose when up in the air. It is rather annoying...anyone had anything like this?

I don't think so....one needs replacing but that noise is like a dull bump...I am used to them going...replaced them myself in the past plus the noise from them going has been consistent on all cars I have owned...
By the way, one garage said they would change the drop links but they must do the tracking....£100!

Top mounts tight ? ( X 3 bolts)
The damper bolt at the top tight?
You sure it's the front ? Bumper ? .

They checked the bolts, all tight. I think I'll take it to another branch to let them take a look at it...if they find anything I'll spring it upon them that their chums down the road fitted them. Surly they are guaranteed for at least a year?

Is there anything I can undo/check without removing anything major? I do not have the tools to remove a shock or the know how...but anything that I could check?

The lower arm sometimes has a metal protector over the stud . That slots into the hub from underneath .Could that be rattling around ??

I think I have found the problem! Just parked up at work and had a good feel around and, sure enough, I can feel a metal 'cup' thing over something on the lower arm...it is sitting loosely over a nut I think. Didn't have time to fully look but I hope to either tighten or remove it over the weekend.

2x 17 mm pinch bolt . Good luck getting the lower arm Out.

If the cups are what I think they are they are the metal heat shields to protect the bottom swivel joint from brake disc heat. Have a good look before dismantling as they are probably almost rusted right through and won't go go tight. If you leave them off (some people do) the lower joint will fail prematurely.
Probably only a few quid from Peugeot so get new ones before you strip it.

Or is it something I can get the garage who fitted the shocks to sort out? Would it be something that they would of dismantled when fitting the Them?

From what I could feel, it seems to be a thin metal cover that is on top of something not below. It feels circular with a bit 'cut out' that could help it fit flush with something.
