Hi all, don't like the space saver spear wheel, does anyone know if the alloy wheel (1.4 16v sport) will fit under the car in its holder?

I would think unlikely as the alloy wheel will be wider. Another option might be to put the puncture repair kit off a 180 GTI in your boot although not sure how you would be on an MOT test given the car should have a spare wheel?
I have to say though, its a spare wheel mounted under the car and is not seen 99% of the time. The only time it is seen is when you need it in which case youll be thankfull for it. What is the actual issue?!

Yes you can put a larger wheel in the cage, from what I remember there are two positions the cage can sit in. You will probably have to buy a longer securing bolt from the dealer though.
I don't think the spare is checked on the MOT. for the simple reason it's not affecting the safety of the car at the time of the test.
Quite a few new cars no longer come with a spare as standard, so these would struggle with road worthiness if it was a requirement.

So can someone confirm, can I not have a spare wheel? I've put 17" Challengers on mine and obviously the 14" Space saver won't be any help if I get a puncture.

You don't need one legally ... CCs don't have them. They have cans of tyre sealant.

It will be better than nothing if you split a side wall // then sealant cans are useless .. but you'll probably have to put it on the rear and move the good tyres to the front or it grounds out more easily.

I don't know if its still in current regs but I know the spare was a testable item at one point, and if that was below minimum tread it was a fail. But the wording gave a loophole. If the spares not present it wasn't testable, so if you did fail on the spare. Just take the fail sheet go dump the spare at home and go back for the re-test and you'd come.out with a pass.

The spare wheel has never to my knowledge been a testable item for an MOT test (35 years in the trade). Some garages may lean to it to maybe sell you a tyre or such, but there is no requirement to even look at it. Also no requirement to have one at all as others have said above. In fact, most new cars now have the glue pot and any spare wheel is an optional extra.
I had an American car once with the rear wheels larger than the fronts and, not able to or want carry two spare wheels, I always carried the repair in the can from Halfords. Only had to use it once and it worked well. Hope this helps.

Most times you can get away with not changing the cage securing bolt.
