Hi all
At my wits end with an airbag fault in my Pug. Its a 2003 muxed 206 gti 138hp.
It has an airbag fault (nothing too strange there), but the fault does not appear if i turn on the ignition with the headlights turned on (sidelights or heads). If i turn on the ignition with the headlights in the Auto position, the fault always appears. This is very consistent.

So far, I have looked at the following:
-soldered all connections under the seat (done by auto elec)
-replaced com2000 unit
-cleaned bsi (electrical contact cleaner)
-battery is less than a year old.
-tried a different airbag ECU(main one)
-disconnected rain/headlight sensor (although rain sensor does not appear to be working)
-Had scanned with planet, comes up with a configuration error, but is certainly correct configuration for the car.

I have had the car at a Peugeot specialist who sent it to Peugeot to check for any updates to the BSI software, none were required.
Eventually they both admitted defeat and gave the car back to me with a we don't know, but all major components seem to be fine Wall Bang

Apologies for the long post, i really am at a loss here. I have had a look at many old posts, but cant find any with a similar problem.
Any help would be much appreciated. Sad

When you say "fault" do you mean airbag warning light illuminates?

If that is the case something weird outside of the airbag control system may be putting a positive feed onto the bulb or giving the bulb an earth path. It may not be illuminating because the system is sensing a fault and being triggered by the ECU but due to a more simple electrical fault directly feeding the bulb.

Without seeing the car and staring to probe with my meter I can't help more than that.

I have seen similar things where the plastic coated tracks on the rear of the panel get worn and make connections between tracks that they shouldn't or break earth tracks so the electrickerry finds a different path to earth.

Hi mate, thanks for the reply.
As for the fault, the centre display shows "aribag fault" and the airbag light (yellow) also lights up on the clocks and stays on. This is only when i turn on the ignition with the lights in the Auto position.
When the headlights are turned on and i turn the ignition on, there is no fault what so ever.
You might be spot on with plastic tracks on the back of the panel, but id probably expect more faults then or for something else not to be working.
The car was in storage for about a year before i bought it an i am told it didnt have the fault before then. I took it out of storage, got a new battery for it and havent been able to get rid of the issue since....

Still getting no where with this one...
I have come accross a Tech Bulletin that says replacing the auto lights/rain sensor might cure it. Has any one any experience of this???

Are you 100% sure the airbag ecu is correctly configured for the SRS equipment actually fitted to the car?

Is the airbag ecu currently in a locked or unlocked state?

Stick it back on Planet, scan it & see what faults are stored for the airbag ecu.

I took it to a peugeot specialist who tells me that the ecu is configured correctly. He put my ecu in another car of the same spec to make sure ecu was ok.
I'll have to pay the guy again if I want to get back on planet. For the moment I have a loan of a mates diagnostic tool.
Its telling me that the ecu is not locked. Configuration has:
- yes to front side airbags (i believe they are at size of seat s)
- NO to side airbag screens (not sure what they ars)
- yes to satellites (nnot sure what they are)

The stored fault is p0041 configuration error.
like I mentioned before the only thing to me that is so unusual is that there is no fault when the lights are not in the auto position. I also know the car has a non genuine windscreen that is probably not a sensor screen. Just don't know how this would give an airbag fault.
thanks again for the help. If I ever solve this I will certainly be sharing the fix......

Isn't this to do with the O2 sensor?

Screens are the airbags that come down from the roof lining, satellites are the sensors on the inner sill.

Which airbag warning light is lighting up on the dash? Have you checked to make sure the passenger airbag isn't disarmed at the switch? Might just be a coincidence that it only comes on when the headlights are off.

I swore I wouldn't give up on this....and finally I may be getting somewhere.
It seems that even though I replaced the COMM2000 with the same as what was in the car. The unit I was replacing was a not the original and that may be causing the configuration error. When I unplug the COMM2000 and turn on the ignition there is no fault.....
I have checked with Peugeot and the spare part number I need for the car is 6242C2. Is there any way to match this to a production number so that I can go get a unit second hand???
If not, is there any other way I can use the number to identify the part at a wreckers?
Any help much appreciated.

It will just work or wont, main differences are ESP or not as it has a steering angle sensor in the com and rear wash wipe or not, plus there's the trip computer button on the end of the wiper stalk, not all of them have thist, have you tried disabling auto headlights?

Configuration error usually means that something is plugged in that you have told it is not or vice versa, so the replacement com might not be compatible with auto headlights, I would try disabling it with diag gear before you do anymore messing around.

tried disabling auto headlights and rain sensor. Have checked the configuration several times and it matches what is in the car. I have found out that these are the part numbers listed as spares for my car:
96509713XT
96530922XT
96450912XT

I have:
96542538XT (which was installed by previous owner, always had fault)
96542560XT (I got later to replace part above, still fault persists)

Am I able to use one of the two comms units that I have? Question They have all the correct functions, but do not match the "XT" number.....

If so, how do I configure them using pp2000? I cannot find the option. Question
